We’re often so busy agonizing over yesterday’s leftover problems or worrying about tomorrow’s uncooked troubles that we tend to overlook today’s plate of plenty that’s right in front of us. Time flies and today becomes tomorrow and the cycle is repeated all over again and again until we end up nervous wrecks who lose control of our lives. Life, even if lived in the fast lane, can be slowed down enough to be able to enjoy the sights and sounds and smells that touch us each day. Here are a few tips on how you can make sure your day is filled with happiness:
• Get up early.
• Do not break your head over the problems you faced yesterday today. If there’s a solution, you’re bound to find it sooner if you clear the cobwebs of worry from your mind.
• Take a walk or go for a jog in the fresh air. There’s nothing like exercise to get your mood on the upswing. If it’s raining, cuddle up with a hot cup of coffee and watch the raindrops splatter your window pane.
• Offer a smile or a kind word to anyone who crosses your path.
• Resist the temptation to trade insult for insult and be the bigger man by walking away from a fight.
• Do the work that’s expected of you as best as you can.
• Avoid spending money on frivolous purchases.
• Save a few dollars if you can.
• Find time to laugh and play with a child.
• Help out a co-worker with a task at work.
• Share a joke around the water cooler that’s not derogatory to anyone you know.
• Meet a few friends over coffee after work.
• Avoid malicious gossip and backbiting.
• If you’re depressed, play some music, watch a DVD or call that special someone who’ll surely chase away the blues.
• Help a total stranger cross the street or find an address.
• Surprise your wife with a special treat – it doesn’t have to be expensive to mean something.
• Spend a romantic evening with your spouse or partner.
• Cuddle together after some great sex.
• Never go to bed with a grudge against a friend or family member.
• Give thanks to God for a day that’s ended safely for you and your loved ones and ask him for the strength to deal with whatever the morrow may bring.
Life is short, we’re clueless as to how long we’ll live, so it’s up to us to make each day as special as possible.
