Happiness is Just Steps Away

We’re often so busy agonizing over yesterday’s leftover problems or worrying about tomorrow’s uncooked troubles that we tend to overlook today’s plate of plenty that’s right in front of us. Time flies and today becomes tomorrow and the cycle is repeated all over again and again until we end up nervous wrecks who lose control of our lives. Life, even if lived in the fast lane, can be slowed down enough to be able to enjoy the sights and sounds and smells that touch us each day. Here are a few tips on how you can make sure your day is filled with happiness:

• Get up early.

• Do not break your head over the problems you faced yesterday today. If there’s a solution, you’re bound to find it sooner if you clear the cobwebs of worry from your mind.

• Take a walk or go for a jog in the fresh air. There’s nothing like exercise to get your mood on the upswing. If it’s raining, cuddle up with a hot cup of coffee and watch the raindrops splatter your window pane.

• Offer a smile or a kind word to anyone who crosses your path.

• Resist the temptation to trade insult for insult and be the bigger man by walking away from a fight.
• Do the work that’s expected of you as best as you can.

• Avoid spending money on frivolous purchases.

• Save a few dollars if you can.

• Find time to laugh and play with a child.

• Help out a co-worker with a task at work.

• Share a joke around the water cooler that’s not derogatory to anyone you know.

• Meet a few friends over coffee after work.

• Avoid malicious gossip and backbiting.

• If you’re depressed, play some music, watch a DVD or call that special someone who’ll surely chase away the blues.

• Help a total stranger cross the street or find an address.

• Surprise your wife with a special treat – it doesn’t have to be expensive to mean something.

• Spend a romantic evening with your spouse or partner.

• Cuddle together after some great sex.

• Never go to bed with a grudge against a friend or family member.

• Give thanks to God for a day that’s ended safely for you and your loved ones and ask him for the strength to deal with whatever the morrow may bring.

Life is short, we’re clueless as to how long we’ll live, so it’s up to us to make each day as special as possible.

A guide to living the great life

People are always talking about living the good life. The good life consists of plenty of money, lots of relaxation, vacations, and fancy cars. So what is the GREAT life? It consists of so much more than that. This article will help you understand what the great life is and how you can achieve it.

Firstly, we need to understand what the great life entails.

Money

When you’re living the great life money is no longer a bad problem. You’ve earned enough so that you can have freedom to do what you want, when you want to do it. So obviously money has brought happiness into your life. But you’ve moved beyond that and lots of money has become sort of second nature. You are no longer in pursuit of more. If more money does come into your life it won’t bring you much more joy than it did before.

Freedom

As I mentioned above, in the great life you have earned enough money to “buy” yourself more freedom. This freedom lets you escape the rat race and control more aspects of your life. You’ll have more time for your family and other things that truly matter.

Happiness

When you are living the great life happiness is brought upon by seeing the happiness in others, whether they are complete strangers or family. Helping those that are less fortunate lets you experience joy that cannot be bought. In the great life you’ll being experiencing a lot of this happiness by creating happiness for others.

Work

In the great life there really is no such thing as a job. A job in the regular or good life is something you do solely to make money. In the great life work isn’t considered a job because it’s exciting, fun, and a passion. It’s not about the money, but rather about the sense of accomplishment.

Troubles and negativity

In the great life troubles and negativity exist but you don’t let them get to you. You look at the bigger picture and realize that any problems that seem major right now won’t matter in a few years or even in a few weeks. You cannot prevent all negativity from entering your great life. There’s always that one negative family member or friend you can’t escape from. When this negativity does come, you react in a positive manner and get a positive result.

Friends and family

This is obvious but needs to be reiterated. Friends and family in the great life won’t care whether you have a hundred dollars or one hundred million dollars. They care about your personality, presence, and happiness.

I’m sure there are plenty more aspects of a great life. Perhaps you are already living the great life? If not, I’ll warn you because it will take some time to achieve a life like this. I haven’t achieved the great life yet but I know I will. You can also and you can start taking steps towards it today. Here are some quick tips to help you do so.

- Surround yourself with people that have achieved what you desire.

- Help others as much as possible.

- Chase a passion, not money.

- Appreciate all that you have, but strive for more.

- Appreciate today, dream about tomorrow.

- Be positive in the face of negativity.

- Never give in, never give up. Your approach can change but the main goal must remain.

- Remember you only have one chance. Don’t waste it.

- Embrace your failures.

- Have fun.

- Aim for BIG dreams.

- Take at least one step each day towards at least one goal.

- Realize what makes your life great already.

How to be a life-changer

The satisfaction of changing your life in a positive way is one thing, but helping others positively change their lives can bring even more fulfillment to you. Being a life-changer is not as difficult as it may seem. And you may have already positively changed someone’s life without even knowing it.

Below are some ways you can be a life-changer. Included are hard and easy ways to change a life.

The easy ways

Smile

This is the simplest thing you can possibly do. But it may change a life. Give a coworker, family member, or even a stranger a smile. Try this in the morning and you could change their whole day, and perhaps that will be the day their life changes.

Pay it forward

Perform random acts of kindness to at least three strangers. After you do, make sure to tell them to pay to forward to at least three other random people. This concept was turned into the movie Pay It Forward. The chain reaction you start can reach thousands of people and leave lasting change in the lives of many of them.

Be polite

This is another simple, but often overlooked act. Being polite to a complete stranger can change their whole outlook on humanity, and change their life.

Give compliments

Give your coworkers and family members compliments once and awhile. The compliments don’t always need to be about how they look; perhaps they can be about their personality or ambition.

Ask someone how they are and truly listen to their response

You’d be surprised as to how many people need someone who will just listen to what they have to say. Ask someone how they are doing or how their day is going. Even if you know they aren’t doing well, listen intently. And respond when you feel it is necessary.

The difficult ways

Ignite an epiphany

An epiphany can be a major turning point or tipping point in someone’s life. And you may be able to instigate it just by saying or doing something that makes a person think. If someone complains that they hate their life or job then tell them it’s time to change. Then mention to them about all the potential they possess within themselves. This will give them that push and that motivation to chase what they desire.

Become a mentor

You can be a mentor to someone and guide them on a positive path. Perhaps you’d like to be a Big Brother or Big Sister or if you don’t want to help someone locally, with the power of the internet you can help anyone from anywhere in the world.

Start a company

Launching a business can be difficult but it can positively change many lives, not just yours. Take care of your employees and customers and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, even if you’re the CEO. Social and green entrepreneurialism is on the rise and provides an opportunity for you to change countless lives.

Become a teacher

I’m sure we’ve all had a teacher who has made us think big and perhaps changed our life. If you have a passion for teaching others, become a teacher and teach in new and exciting ways. It is desperately needed in our schools right now, students are bored and who can blame them.

Just remember by changing a life, you have changed the world.
