Hi Priyanka,

When talking about parties - I'm not talking about office parties and having a good time. I was talking to the younger generation who like to just get drunk and think that's a great time.

I'm glad you liked the rest of the article though.

Um, parties are also a way to have fun! Why else do offices have their annual parties? So people can get away from their desks a bit and let their hair down. I've done drinks (minimal, and in company) and not drugs, but definitely partying - which I think is a great mood booster at times. But as usual, life is neither a lifelong party nor an uphill struggle/task all the time - it changes and evolves, changing us sometimes in the process (if it had no change, things would be a bit boring, no?) I feel (just my personal opinion) that if you didn't do parties when growing up, you could maybe mention what worked for YOU personally, and what didn't, instead of a blanket statement like that, qualify your advice, so to speak - Party, but not so hard that you lose track/or party - but don't overdo it! or party - not as the sole aim, but as little sprinklings of good fun in life.

Other than that, I loved ur article, its analogies, its point about 'drama', and the pop test part most of all! A friend was telling me today about the School of Hard Knocks she's been thru, and I'll definitely pass on that bit to her :-)
@tim: "in school the lessons come before the test, in life, the lessons come after the test." awesome.

Hey Tim,

Glad you liked this post. I tried to make it a little different than others out there.

I was never in to parties, drinking, drugs, and all that. I just find it to be a waste of time and money. There's so much more that can be done and so many other ways to obtain joy.

I agree with you friend, that statement couldn't be more true.

I like the post....

yes, parties are fun, one or two drinks or a joint will not be the ruin of you....but more that that, yes, it will...I am a physician, and have seen more than my fair share of ruined lives, families, children.

16- 25 years dead from simple alcohol poisoning, or overdoses....not to mention the havoic of motor vehicle accidents, where other innocent are killed......but this is just common sense, well known, well documented. but alcoholics are so far from reality and live in a defensive world that protects their drinking that few survive....the survivoirs are the ones that end up in prison...forced to stop drinking. otherwise most just die of alcohol related causes...and fairly young..

i liked the pop quiz part....a friend says in school the lessons come before the test, in life, the lessons come after the test.
